I grew up in a middle class, ethnic neighborhood in Queens New York. As a young girl, I felt a deep connection to people who were in emotional or physical pain and decided a career in medicine would be an ideal way to alleviate suffering.
At Barnard College, I tempered my medical studies with courses in sociology and found what I thought was my true calling, Medical Sociology. I received my PhD from Columbia University in 1993 and went on to Stanford University as an Andrew Mellon Fellow.
My interests turned to HIV and I was fortunate to study alongside clinicians and scientists from around the world, including the Pasteur Institute in France and the National Institutes of Health in Maryland. Laboratories and hospital settings brought me closer to the world of science and medicine but I missed the academic diversity of a teaching/research institution.
In 1996, I joined the faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill, NC and expanded my research interests in the areas of mental health and illness. Driven to do more in the way of public policy, I moved back to New York in 2001 and joined the Vera Institute of Justice, working with children in the foster care system. I found the immediacy and hands-on quality of policy work rewarding but I still felt my work didn’t get to the root cause of suffering or have a lasting benefit in improving a person’s quality of life.
In 2003, a colleague gave me a copy of Sandra Ingerman’s book on Soul Retrieval. I was intrigued by the healing practice known as Shamanism and later that year met Heather Cumming, a shamanic practitioner who performed a Soul Retrieval for me. From the moment Heather started to drum, I was instantly transported into a spiritual realm of energy healing, where I could clearly see, feel, and hear every aspect of the healing spirits that lived there. I felt a deep spiritual healing took place and though I could not fully understand it at that time, I knew this experience would help me discover a deeper way of helping those in crisis.
In 2004, I joined Heather on one of her spiritual tours to Brazil to visit a full trance medium named John of God. I witnessed many psychic surgeries, spoke with people who had such surgeries, and experienced a profound energy healing while sitting in meditation. I began to understand how all physical and emotional illness has a spiritual root-cause and moreover, the spiritual realms offered genuine, tangible, assistance.
At the end of my visit I was told I was a medium and made a Daughter of the Casa at John of God’s Healing Sanctuary. Upon my return to the States I immersed myself in the study of alternative energy healing modalities: Mediumship, Shamanism, Reiki, Hypnotherapy, Past Life, and Life Between Lives Spiritual Regression. I found that although each healing channel differs in form– in the way in which healing is offered–in the end, the results are the same: each modality offers the gift of energy healing through the assistance of one’s Soul and Enlightened Spiritual Beings.
I am indebted to my teachers who by their example instilled in me a reverence for this work and a deep desire to be of service. My Shamanic studies were completed with Heather Cumming, Betsy Bergstrom, and Sandra Ingerman. My studies in Hypnotherapy and Spiritual Regression therapy were completed with Paul Aurand. Chakra balancing and sound therapy with the Tibetan Singing Bowls with Tom Kenyon and Shree Krisha Shahi of Nepal.
I now understand that my extensive knowledge in the world of science and medicine works hand in hand with my gifts as a healing medium. I navigate both worlds and assist people in their everyday and spiritual lives. I believe both are vital for an individual’s overall health and wellbeing.

“I had a dire medical condition that did not improve by traditional Western medicine. My physicians were doing the best they could with the tools they had but I was told my condition would not improve. Rosa helped me make sense of it all and I realized there was emotional reason for my illness.”
